This installation shows exactly why that configuration matters.

The pool equipment was positioned high on a retaining wall in the rear corner of the garden, against a rear wall column. Plus, around 20 underground plumbing and service lines entering beneath the enclosure; possibly an Acoustic Box record.

Why Was a Deep Backless Enclosure Needed?

The Deep Backless Acoustic Box provides additional rear depth compared with a standard Backless enclosure, making it suitable for installations where pipework, structures or services are mounted on a rear wall or in this install, to help accommodate the rear wall column.

The Deep Backless uses 150mm wall strips to mount the enclosure to the wall. This creates enough space for the lid to open fully, even when obstructions like conduits, water pipes, or downpipes are present.

The additional 100mm clearance (over the standard 50mm) allows you to cut the wall strips to fit around vertical objects, while still maintaining the necessary 50mm for lid clearance.

This enclosure was a single 1350mm wide compartment.

For this install, the enclosure had to work with:

  • an elevated position on a retaining wall requiring additional H3 Timber Footings to manage the slope
  • a restricted rear garden corner
  • a structural wall column
  • around 20 underground service lines
  • additional connections to a rainwater tank

It is a good example of why pool equipment enclosure selection should consider everything behind, beneath and around the equipment, not just the dimensions of the pump and filter.
