Panels, Depths and Modular Widths Explained
While Freestanding, Backless and Deep Backless enclosures may look quite different once installed, they all start from the same core components.
Understanding how the system works makes it easier to specify the right enclosure and plan installs more confidently.
One Panel System, Three Depth Options
At the heart of every Acoustic Box enclosure is a standard set of side panels ranging in size from 660mm to 1350mm. Whether you’re choosing a Freestanding, Backless or Deep Backless configuration, the side panels remain the same, what changes is the depth of the wall strip at the rear.
- A Freestanding enclosure has a standard side panel plus rear panel to create a fully enclosed box.
- A Backless enclosure removes the rear panel and has a 50mm wall strip attached at the rear. The 50mm wall strip gives space for the lid to open, allowing the enclosure to sit closer to a wall or fence while still providing acoustic control and access.
- A Deep Backless enclosure has a 150mm wall strip, increasing the overall depth of the enclosure a further 100mm from the Backless unit. This option is ideal when there are down pipes or obstructions to consider and still having enough clearance for the lid to open, where equipment needs extra clearance or where wall-mounted components need to sit comfortably within the enclosure footprint.
Visually, the side panels remain identical across all three options. It’s the wall strips that define the overall depth and ultimately how the enclosure interacts with the site. Our Measurement Images above give a clear overview of sizing options available.
Modular Widths Built to Fit
The width of an Acoustic Box enclosure is just as considered as its depth. Again, there are standard module widths ranging from 660mm to 1650mm which can be joined together as needed.
Each module is connected using a 28mm joiner between sections. For example, a 2028mm wide enclosure is created by combining an 1100mm width panel plus a 900mm panel with a 28mm joiner between them. This modular approach allows widths to scale logically while maintaining structural integrity and consistent panel alignment. Custom Sizing Available
While custom sizing is available, the majority of Acoustic Box installations are built using the standard sizes and modules. These have been developed to suit the most common pool equipment layouts, making for faster production times, easier installs, and more cost-effective.
Custom enclosures come into play when site constraints demand it, such as unusual layouts or levels, strict compliance distances, or architectural integration. But in most cases, a standard modular configuration will do the job.
